Baviaans to Die Hel

  • Limited self-catering available.
  • It is recommended that you be competent with basic 4x4 experience.
  • Camping with facilities, toilets, hot water & showers.

  • The terrain is mostly gravel roads with some tar sections.
  • The Mountain Passes are normally Grade 3 and can have wash-aways that may need packing to get through, etc.
  • Adverse weather and rain can result in the Mountain passes becoming Grade 4 and the gravel roads becoming very muddy.
  • There are some river crossings which are normally dry or have small flows, but will require drivers to walk first to clear boulders etc. if flowing strongly.
  • The May 2026 Floods have resulted in rough conditions in Baviaans, Die Hel, Kammanassie, Seweweeks & De Vlug.
  • You can tow a 4x4 trailer or caravan on this route.
