Route Overview

Explore the Wild Coast on less-travelled 4x4 routes near the shoreline. This challenging route includes Grade 4-5 obstacles, requiring road-building and clearing overgrowth in some areas.

Route Details - 7 Day Tour

  • Total distance: Approximately 400 km
  • Terrain: 350 km of gravel and off-road tracks
  • Vehicle requirements: You will need a 4x4 with Low Range, high clearance & Diff-lock. Rear diff-lock or traction control is recommended.
  • Start: Kei Mouth
  • End Point: Collywobbles

Route Details - 5 Day Tour

  • Total distance: Approximately 170 km
  • Terrain: 350 km of gravel and off-road tracks
  • Vehicle requirements: You will need a 4x4 with Low Range, high clearance & Diff-lock. Rear diff-lock or traction control is recommended.
  • Start: Kei Mouth
  • End Point: Kobb Inn

Itinerary

Day 1 - Kei Mouth to Trennery’s

Start your journey at Kei Mouth, where you’ll take the Kei Mouth Ferry. Cross the Gxara River and visit the scenic Gxara Falls before reaching Trennerys.

Day 2 - Trennerys to Wavecrest

Begin your day by crossing Qolora and exploring the Qolora Marsh. Visit Gates Waterfall, then cross Qolora again. Continue with the Ncizele Upstream Crossing and view the Jacaranda Shipwreck. Finally, pass through Khobonqabe Crossing to reach Wavecrest.

Day 3 - Wavecrest to Cebe

Embark on the Ngqusi River Crossing and, if possible, take the Inxaxo Crossing or the gravel escape route to arrive at Cebe.

Day 4 - Cebe to Kob Inn

Cross Cebe, Gqunqe, and Ngqwara before tackling the Qora River Pass and Kulunyanga Pass on your way to Kob Inn.

Day 5 - Kob Inn

Enjoy a leisurely day at Kob Inn with activities such as hiking, fishing, swimming, and kayaking. Compact 5 Day Tour End

Day 6 - Kob Inn to The Haven

Visit Dwesa Nature Reserve and see the Ngoma River Mouth. Cross Mbashe Pass and the historic Mbashe River Bridge from 1960, followed by the Mbhanyana Bridge to arrive at The Haven.

Day 7- The Haven to Coffee Bay

Cross the Mbhanyana, Xhora, and Mpako Bridges. Explore the famous Hole in the Wall, visit the Mpuzi Caves, and stop by the Coffee Shack before reaching Coffee Bay.

Day 8 - Coffee Bay to Collywobbles

Conclude your tour at Collywobbles.
